Tanzania Economic Outlook

With a population of over 61 million people, Tanzania is located in East Africa, neighbouring Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique. With a size of 365,756 sq Mil (947,303sq KM), it is the 13th largest country in Africa and the 31st largest country globally.

In 2020 Tanzania had a GDP of 63.4 Billion USD, and it is expected to grow to over 65 Billion USD by the end of the year 2021. Before the Corona virus pandemic, Tanzania had an economic growth of 6.8% in 2019, but this reduced to 2.1% in 2020 when the pandemic hit the country. Despite the harsh living condition caused by the pandemic, the inflation rate fell from 3.5% to 3.3% in 2020, partly due to a steady decline in food prices.

A stable political environment and intervention by the Bank of Tanzania have helped to maintain a stable exchange rate. In 2021 the economic growth has been seen to start recovering, with the first half of the year reaching 4.1% economic growth. Tanzanian cultural change has also helped to grow the economy where most people are moving from socialism to capitalism economic systems.
